Burning Questions (FAQ + Help)
At Tuscany Candle® we are here to help. We have listed some of our most frequently asked questions below. If you do not see your question addressed here please feel free to reach out to our customer care team for assistance.
Candle Care
- The first time you light a Tuscany® scented candle, let it burn until the entire top has melted to the container edges before putting it out. For most of our candles, this works out to be about one hour per inch in diameter. Wax has a “memory”, so if a candle is extinguished with a partial wax pool, it may tunnel and never achieve a full pool. This can lead to issues such as tunneling and wicks extinguishing themselves.
- Avoid letting your candle burn for longer than four hours at a time. Any longer and the balance between the length of the wick, the temperature of the flame, and the melting wax starts to get out of sync. If you are looking to fill a space with scent for a long period of time, we suggest stocking up on multiples of the same candle and rotating them throughout the day.
Absolutely! Always trim your wicks to ¼” before use to remove any wick 'bloom' from the previous burn.
A lengthy wick can lead to "sooting" and an uneven burn. Avoid letting the excess wick fall onto the top of the candle. Stray debris will inhibit your candle’s performance and may lead to performance and safety issues.
Our Candle Care Kit includes a wick trimmer and other tools to help you to optimize your candle's performance.
Do not blow out your candles! This is the worst way to extinguish your candle as you risk sending droplets of hot wax flying out of the jar or filling your face with smoke. Instead, use a candle snuffer, a wick dipper, or even a glass covering, so long as it’s completely made from non-flammable materials.
Our signature Candle Care Kit includes a terrific candle snuffer in addition to other tools to keep your Tuscany collection burning bright.
The fragrance oils and wax formulas we use in our products are sensitive to both light and temperature so please use care when storing Tuscany Candle® products for an extended period of time. Be sure to store your candles and wax melts in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or any intense light to protect from color fade or discoloration.
Our products can be sensitive to extreme cold and heat so it is best to store them between 50ºF and 85ºF. Extended periods of heat can cause melting while extreme cold may cause separation or even cracking. After long exposure to cold temperatures, allow the candle to return to room temperature for at least 2 hours before burning.
Candle Safety
We take great pride in the extensive quality control processes that we have implemented to ensure that our candles perform reliably, consistently, and, most importantly, safely.
If you've had a bad experience with one of our scented candles, we'd like to address the issue thoroughly and promptly.
Please take a few minutes and fill out the claim form here: tuscanycandle.com/pages/claims. A member of our customer service team will follow up with you shortly.
- Do not leave candles burning unattended.
- Keep candles out of the reach of small children and pets.
- Always burn on a heat resistant surface.
- Remove all packaging before lighting.
- Do not use if the jar is cracked, chipped, or scratched.
- Do not touch or move candle with visible (liquid) hot wax.
- Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, or any combustible material.
- Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents, and ceiling fans to minimize smoking or a wick blowing out causing the candle to burn unevenly.
- Make sure candles are completely extinguished and the wick no longer glows before leaving the room.
- Burn candle within sight.
- Keep away from things that catch fire.
- Keep away from children and pets.
- Always leave at least 20 cm between burning candles.
- You must trim the wick to ¼” each time the candle is to be relit.
- Avoid using in drafty areas. Place on temperature-safe surface.
- Container will be hot when candle is lit. Extinguish with care as wax may splatter.
- Do not use the lid to extinguish the flame.
- Do not burn longer than 4 hours at a time and keep wick centered.
- Discontinue use when ½” of wax remains.
You should discontinue the use of your candle when 1/2” of wax is left at the bottom of the jar. Continuing to burn after this point significantly increases safety risks.
Of Course! All of our scented candles are great options for use with candle warmers for those who prefer a flameless candle-melting experience.
Please note that once you have used a candle with a warmer, the candle is no longer safe to light, and must only be used on a warmer!
This is because the wicks can shift in a warmed candle, and will often wind up too close to the glass walls of the jar. This unintended placement can then result in cracking and thermal shock when exposed to flames.
Nope! None of our candles include lead wicks - In fact, metal wicks have been banned in the United States for decades. All of our wicks (which are made in the USA) are metal-free. Depending on the candle collection and application, our wicks are made with cotton, cotton with a paper core, or cotton and paper woven together.
Absolutely! Testing is integral for determining quality and ensuring a safe, consumer-friendly product. As part of our quality control protocols, we evaluate every aspect of products against ASTM standards to verify performance during every phase of product development and manufacturing.
As a company of avid animal lovers, we will always ensure that our candle fragrance formulations contain low enough essential oil concentrations to safely burn around your pets.
We do recommend that you burn our candles in an area safely removed from curious paws and wagging tails.

All About Our Candles
The short answer would be wax, dye, and fragrance. Each of our products is composed of a unique variety of proprietary wax blends (either paraffin or soy/paraffin), and we do not share detailed ingredient lists. Our products are rigorously tested during product development and throughout production to ensure optimal consumer safety and performance characteristics.
We do disclose select active ingredients included in our odor-control scented candles. These ingredients may be found at empirecandle.com/product-ingredients
Fragrances are often made up of both synthetic and natural ingredients. A single fragrance can contain anywhere from 12 to 70 individual ingredients. Most of our fragrances contain some essential oils.
Although we work very hard to produce a consistent blend of wax, color, and fragrance in our scented candles, occasionally the wax in a particular candle may not be a thoroughly blended as the rest of the batch. If you happen to receive one of these candles, please click here to let us know about it so that we can send you a replacement from another batch.
On another note, if the candle smelled great in the store and now you can't smell it at all, you might want to think about taking a Covid test - loss of smell can be an early indicator of infection.
The answer to this question is a bit tricky, and in the end, it depends on how both on strictly you interpret the word "Vegan" and your comfort level with very minute levels of animal byproducts in your scented candles.
While our candles are primarily composed of vegan
paraffin and soy waxes, some of our fragrances may include chemical compounds
with molecular levels of ingredients that may be derived from animal
byproducts.
An excellent example of this would be honey. While our
collection has some fragrances that feature honey as a fragrance note, the
honey portion of those fragrances is generally predominately synthetic.
However, in some cases, a tiny part of the fragrance formula may also be
derived from actual honey.

Because of the unique thermal requirements for glass candle containers, the chemical composition of our glassware is generally different from that of food and beverage containers like pickle jars or wine bottles. Because of these variances, some glass recyclers will not accept candle containers - you'll need to check with your local facility to determine their policies on candle jars.
Because we are committed to producing the highest quality scented candles, we use glass jars developed explicitly for use in candle applications. The glass has a different chemical composition than household glassware and may include paints and other colorants.
Because of this, our glass jars should not be used in food or beverage applications - you should not drink, eat, or store food in them.
That said, once empty, our jars are versatile and can be upcycled into many useful items around the home or office. Here are some creative ideas:
- Storage Containers: They can store small items such as office supplies, jewelry, or sewing kits. The clear glass makes it easy to see the contents and can be easily labeled for organization.
- Planters: Small plants or succulents can be planted in them. The transparency of the glass makes for a modern and chic look, especially if you add decorative stones or pebbles.
- DIY Décor: You can fill them with string lights, pebbles, or sand to create decorative pieces for shelves or tables.
- Bathroom Organizers: They are great for holding cotton balls, q-tips, or makeup brushes, keeping your vanity neat and stylish.
- Candle Making: Naturally, they can be reused for homemade candle making, giving a sustainable cycle to your candle enjoyment.
Remember to clean them thoroughly and remove any residual wax before repurposing them!

Thanks for the question! We've been proudly manufacturing our candles in Kansas City since 1951!
We currently operate in a GMP-compliant 400,000-square-foot facility filled with 9 production lines, robots, testing laboratories, and several hundred of the finest candle-makers in the country.
We love these candles too, but we're not allowed to ship them. You can find them at some of our brick and mortar retail partners.
When you shop our Tuscany® Candles online, you'll find them listed at our recommended retail prices. We love to give you value, so be sure to join our Candle Cash Rewards Program so you don't miss out on any of our frequent sales and discount promos.
While it does cost us a bit more to send out individual candles than bulk deliveries to stores, we're committed to ensuring you have the convenience of ordering online.
As you point out, many of our retail partners choose to sell our candles at price points that vary from our suggestions – some stores are higher, while some may be lower.
If your local grocery is one of the outlets with lower prices, congratulations! We definitely suggest that you load up on our candles at those great prices!
Wherever you choose to purchase Tuscany® Candles, we're grateful that you choose the quality and care we pour into every candle. Thank you for inviting us into your home.
Wax Melts & Warmers
As with our candles, we do not recommend exceeding 4 hours of burn time on our wax melts.
Each cube from our 6-segment packages will emit fragrance for an entire 4-hour burn cycle. We suggest using 1 cube for our outlet warmers and 1 or 2 cubes for the tabletop wax warmers, depending on the size of your space.
When you are ready to swap fragrances, turn off the warmer's power. Once the dish has cooled to room temperature, place it in the freezer until the wax contracts enough to easily release from the bowl.
Be sure to allow the dish to return to room temperature before beginning another melt cycle.
We recommend using only Tuscany Candle brand melts in our Tuscany Candle warmers for an optimal and safe fragrance experience.
Arrgh - that's a bummer. Unfortunately, aside from the bulbs, we don’t stock replacement parts for any of our wax tart bar warmers. If you don't mind taking a minute or two to complete our claims form, we'd be happy to offer you a coupon for $5.00 towards the purchase of any new wax melt warmer on this site.
The great news is that nothing is wrong - All of our small outlet wax melt warmers feature adjustable plugs, so you simply need to rotate the plug until it aligns with your wall outlet.
Some of the plugs may be harder to turn than others. So be sure to hold the “elbow” portion of the outlet firmly when rotating. Removing the ceramic portion of the wax melt warmer may also help the outlet to rotate fully.
Our tabletop wax melt warmers use 25-watt bulbs (E12 base), while our smaller outlet warmers use 15-watt bulbs (E-12 base). Many of our retailers carry these items in their candle sections. Similar suitable bulbs can be purchased at most hardware and home improvement stores.

The most common reason for excessive soot is excessive wick. If your wicks have "mushroomed" or gotten too long, you likely need to trim them to 1/4" above the surface of the wax before your next burn. If this doesn't resolve the issue, please fill out our claim form, and one of our customer service team will reach out to you.
Thanks for your continued interest in our scented candles!
Much like fashion and home decor, fragrance preferences are constantly evolving, so we must continuously refine our offerings to keep up with these changing trends. Unfortunately, this means that some old favorites are retired each year, so we can make room for exciting new candles we hope will become your new favorites.
We want to offer you a coupon that you can use on our online store as you search for your new favorite candle.
